Detailed application

Detailed application

The following steps describe how you can seal your damp walls. The application steps are considered to be a suggestion for a high-level damage scenario. The joints must be visible for a targeted joint seal. The old plaster which has a high salt concentration should be removed but a remodeling of the joints is not generally necessary, this might be different for every building.

Prepare masonry:
Remove plaster with a drill hammer completely and clean the masonry with a brush.

Work the joints:
Excavate the joints up to a depth of approx. 2 cm and re-joint them with a sulfate resistant mortar.

Create drillings for horizontal barrier: Distances of approx. 15 cm (7 drillings / m), 30 – 35 cm deep, 45 – 60° downward all the way to the base. Clean/vacuum drill holes.

Create drillings for vertical barrier / transverse moisture penetration: Horizont. and vertic. Distances of 20 – 25 cm. Depending on the size of the stones, horizonal joint drillings might be necessary.

Drive in plastic packers:
Drive in plastic packers all the way to the last big packer marking ring using the drive in aid.

PERMAGEL Do-It-Yourself Set:

PERMAGEL Craftsman Set:

Filling the Do-It-Yourself Set gel press:

  • Turn the body of the press completely loose from the head, pull the pressure rod all the way out
  • Remove the cartridge lid and slide the cartridge into the press, remove the strap from the cartridge
  • Screw the press back together and insert the pressure rod completely by pressing the spring lock
  • Now the inner rubber pressure plate is touching the gel inside the cartridge and delivers the necessary amount of primary pressure to transport the gel through spring force

  • Connect (portable) electric drill with the drive shaft of the press, tighten it, attach the mounting bracket. It is used to lock the press into position on the (portable) electric drill

Gel injection using the Do-It-Yourself Set gel press:

  • Connect plug-in socket with packer, start pumping
  • Per stroke approx. 1 shot glass of gel is injected
  • When all cavities and the drill hole are filled, a back pressure builds up in the drill hole, the valve at the bottom of the hose opens, the gel comes out
  • This means stop right there and continue with the next packer

Gel injection using the Craftsman Set gel press:

  • Connect plug-in socket with packer, start gel injection by pressing the button
  • Per stroke approx. 1 shot glass of gel is injected
  • When all cavities and the drill hole are filled, a back pressure builds up in the drill hole, the valve at the bottom of the hose opens, the gel comes out
  • This means stop right there and continue with the next packer

Remove packers:
After every drill hole has been filled with gel, cut off plastic packers flush with the wall using a saw, angle grinder, or hammer and broach.

Postprocessing:
Apply seal mud to the masonry with a thickness of approx. 4 – 5 mm, use renovation plaster on top of that, so it is flush with the remaining old plaster.
